I live by a various assortment of quotes and credos that I use as not only personal inspiration but also as fuel to feed my capabilities to reach out and inspire or motivate others out there who have potential but just need a little push or guidance to take that first step. I took that first step a long time ago, and as I realize this is a journey that may very well have no ending, I can say none of it would be possible without that first step.
I’m a huge purveyor in the philosophy, “you can do anything you put your mind to,” because honestly I believe its true. You truly can do anything you put your mind to, however many people mistranslate what that quote is actually trying to imply. Often enough people will try to say that is naive to believe because we all have limitations, which is true to a degree, but quite honestly most limitation is in the mind.
Truth is you actually can do anything you put your mind to, but you have to put your mind to it in order to get it done. Its unfortunate the trouble we have accepting that truth. We live in an extremely ignorant society where people gain this idea that things are easy and everything is supposed to be handed to you in a blueprint or plan form. Its our obsession with convenience and lack of patience that has led us down this apathetic path of negativity and discouragement. Therefore, when someone wants to do something extraordinary they receive so much backlash and discouragement because of those who have issues dealing with their own inadequacies. Its quite sad actually.
It takes work to become great at something. As much as the idols of our society are praised and looked up to for their talents, they also busted their ass to get to where they are. Some of them also had a string of luck in their favor but that was also a result of being at right place at the right time which many of them put themselves in that position enough times to manifest a situation that would finally work to their benefit. People don’t always see that though. Its not talked about often, and because of it so many unfortunate kids grow up believing in this fairy tale fantasy of what defines success.
There’s also a lot of hardship that comes with pursuing any dream or passion. Again, we see the result of hard work, determination, and perseverance but we never see the dark, dreary, and difficult times that come with it. Any individual at a certain level of success will tell you about the times when they skipped meals or even sleep in order to make that sacrifice for something that helped them achieve their goals along the way.
It takes dedication, commitment and the strive to do whatever it takes, regardless of the outcome in order to be truly great at something. And no matter what anybody says, all that matters is how you feel and what is truly important to you. Because, a lot of ourselves tends to get lost in this journey of bettering ourselves amidst all the opinions and advice from everyone we surround ourselves with on the daily.
When times get hard and we’re struggling, all that negative energy and lack of confidence can eat away out our hunger, taking away that natural drive that keeps us motivated. I’ve been there more times than I can even count, and I’m sure I’ll continue to have those deterring moments throughout my life as I’m always trying to achieve more than what’s to be expected, because truthfully, fuck expectations. All they do is limit our reach. And we have to set bars that are out of reach in order to see if it is possible.
Personally, I believe it starts with the youth. We have to encourage children at a young age to find their talents and passions, and help cultivate them into something they can use to propel them in life. And above all, we need to encourage them to believe in themselves, because without confidence it doesn’t matter what talents or skills you posses. Confidence is key in success, but its not always naturally present. We all have to be reminded from time to time of our capacity and ability to achieve.
That’s where the fundamental purpose of human connection comes into play. That’s where we utilize the power we each have individually to uplift one another in order to help each other tap into that human potential. Its not only possible, its effects are almost miraculous when you’ve seen it occur first hand. Its the reason I wrote this blog, its the purpose for which I’ve found meaning in my own existence. And if I can help another soul progress further along their journey while I’m here than I’ve done what I felt was my job. Now just imagined if we all took that initiative and approach with one another.
One thing is for certain, humans are capable of the most incredible achievements when they have faith in themselves and one another. But they have to believe in who they are and what they’re doing to see it actually work. So think about that next time you come up with an idea that you think was brought to your attention for a reason more than mere coincidence. The universe works in mysterious ways, and unless you become more aware, and take action to do anything, you’ll never know.
